Alethea Paige Gaccion was named the ASUN Women’s Golfer of the Week, according to a March 12 announcement from the ASUN Conference. Gaccion led the Central Arkansas Bears Women’s Golf team to a second-place finish at the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational, held from March 3 to March 5.
The recognition highlights Gaccion’s performance in which she shot two under par for the tournament and finished first overall. After tying with TK Kongthong of Georgia State at the end of three rounds, Gaccion secured her victory by making a birdie on the first playoff hole. She led all golfers with an average score of 3.9 on par fours, tied for ninth on par fives with an average of 4.75, and recorded ten birdies and thirty-six pars during the event.
Head Coach Summar Roachell said, “I’m very proud of Ally’s performance this week. From start to finish she was in complete control. She has worked very hard over the last month to put herself in a position to win. I was happy to see all the hard work and effort pay off for her. She handled herself with poise and confidence throughout all three days. It wasn’t easy, but she fought to the very end. Her shot in the playoff, hitting it to 2 feet for the win, is something I’ll never forget. She is a very special player and is very deserving of this recognition.”
