Central Arkansas Bears lost to Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs with a final score of 99-82 on Sunday at Moody Coliseum in Dallas. This defeat brings Central Arkansas’ record to 5-8, while SMU improves to 10-2 for the season. The game was the last non-conference matchup for Central Arkansas before they begin their ASUN Conference schedule.
SMU took an early lead, starting with Samet Yigitoglu’s tip-in less than a minute into the game. By the 15-minute mark, SMU had established a 21-6 advantage, helped by B.J. Edwards’ multiple baskets and support from Jaron Pierre Jr. Central Arkansas responded with several three-pointers, narrowing the gap late in the first half. Ty Robinson’s three-pointer cut SMU’s lead to four points with under a minute left before halftime. Robinson finished with a career-high 28 points in the game. Despite this effort, SMU closed the half ahead 51-47.
In the second half, SMU maintained and expanded its lead through strong shooting and defense. Jaron Pierre Jr. scored early and continued contributing on both ends of the court, while Camren Hunter tried to keep Central Arkansas close with a layup at 17:00. Defensive plays by Pierre Jr. and Sam Walters limited Central Arkansas’ scoring opportunities. Boopie Miller added key points for SMU with a fast break layup and later a three-pointer, increasing their advantage further. Luke Moore of Central Arkansas hit a three-pointer at 8:20 but could not reduce SMU’s substantial lead.
Other notable performances included Javion Guy-King’s career-high 16 points and three steals for Central Arkansas, as well as contributions from Camren Hunter (19 points) and Luke Moore (9 points, five assists).
Central Arkansas will return home to host Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, January 1st in Conway, Arkansas.
