The University of Central Arkansas Bears men’s basketball team is traveling to Florida for two ASUN Conference games. The Bears, with a record of 17-10 overall and 12-2 in conference play, will first face the Stetson Hatters in DeLand on Thursday night. Their previous meeting this season resulted in a decisive 93-73 win for the Bears. In that game, Camren Hunter scored 21 points and Ty Robinson added 20, while three other players also reached double figures.
Following the Stetson matchup, the Bears will head to Ft. Myers to play against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The teams previously met on New Year’s Day, with Central Arkansas securing an 85-83 victory after overcoming a halftime deficit by shooting 60% in the second half. Ty Robinson led with 27 points.
Central Arkansas is coming off its tenth consecutive win after defeating UWG 76-62 at home last Saturday. That victory secured a first-round bye in the upcoming ASUN tournament and set a school record for conference wins in the Division I era. The Bears are currently second in the ASUN standings, trailing first place by one game and leading third place by two wins. Against UWG, Ty Robinson recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, Luke Moore contributed 21 points, and Camren Hunter reached his 500th point of the season.
In conference play this year, Central Arkansas is averaging 84 points per game while shooting 47% from the field, including 37% from three-point range and 74% from the free throw line.
Stetson has lost four of its last five games but recently defeated Jacksonville at home. Jamie Phillips Jr. leads Stetson in scoring during ASUN games with an average of 16 points per game and adds 5.6 rebounds per contest. Ethan Copeland and Collin Kuhl are also averaging double figures for Stetson.
Florida Gulf Coast has won four of its last six games, including recent victories over UNF and Stetson at home. J.R. Konieczny leads FGCU in conference scoring with an average of 16.6 points per game and also tops the team in rebounding.
Thursday’s game will be held at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center in DeLand at 7:00 p.m. CT, while Saturday’s contest will take place at Alico Arena in Ft. Myers at 1:00 p.m. CT.
