As the 2025-26 college basketball season approaches, the ASUN Conference has released its Preseason All-ASUN Team and preseason polls for men’s basketball.
Central Arkansas guard Camren Hunter has been named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-ASUN Team. Hunter led the Bears in scoring as a freshman in the 2021-22 season, averaging 14.1 points per game, and was recognized as the ASUN Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-ASUN honors. He continued his strong performance in the 2022-23 season, leading the team with 16.9 points per game and again earning All-ASUN recognition. After missing the 2023-24 season due to injury and playing at Wisconsin for the 2024-25 season, Hunter returns to Central Arkansas for his senior year.
Last season, the Bears finished 4-14 in ASUN Conference games, placing 10th. They qualified for the ASUN Championship Tournament, where they defeated Stetson before falling to top-seeded Lipscomb, who went on to win the tournament.
Head Coach John Shulman commented, “Preseason honors and predictions are exactly that- preseason predictions, we are more concerned about post season honors and polls.” He added, “I’m glad Cam got recognized but we are just ready to get going to hopefully prove a lot of people wrong, we will see.”
The Bears will begin their 2025-26 season on November 3 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, facing UNC. Their conference schedule opens on New Year’s Day in Conway against Florida Gulf Coast.
The Preseason All-ASUN Team includes Chris Ashby (Queens), Corneilous Williams (North Alabama), Tate McCubbin (Austin Peay), Camren Hunter (Central Arkansas), Montavious Myrick (EKU), Chris Arias (Jacksonville), Charlie Williams (Lipscomb), Donte Bacchus (North Alabama), Jamie Phillips Jr. (Stetson), and Shelton Williams-Dryden (West Georgia). Chris Ashby of Queens was named Preseason Player of the Year, and Montavious Myrick of EKU was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Ashby and Corneilous Williams were unanimous selections.
In the preseason coaches poll, Queens was picked first, followed by North Alabama and EKU. Central Arkansas was ranked eighth. In the media poll, North Alabama was selected first, with EKU and Queens following. Central Arkansas was ranked 11th.
The Bears will look to improve on last year’s record as they prepare for the upcoming season.
