The Central Arkansas men’s soccer team was defeated by Bellarmine in an ASUN conference match on Saturday night. The Bears fell behind early, conceding two goals in the first 20 minutes. Although Pietro Fontana had a chance to equalize after the first Bellarmine goal, his shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
A red card issued to a Central Arkansas player during a transition play left the team with ten men for over an hour of game time. Bellarmine capitalized on the advantage, scoring a third goal before halftime.
In the second half, Central Arkansas increased its intensity and managed to score in the 58th minute. Lucas Shearer delivered a corner kick that Elijah Bishop converted, reducing Bellarmine’s lead to two goals. However, Bellarmine responded with two more goals, bringing the score to 5-1 by the 76th minute. The Bears added a late goal in the 85th minute, again from a Shearer corner, finished by Michael Oliveri.
Central Arkansas now has two games left in the regular season. Their final home match, which will also serve as senior day, is scheduled for next Saturday at the Bill Stephens Complex, where they will face Queens at 7 p.m.
