After a challenging season, three seniors from the Central Arkansas men’s soccer team have been named to the Academic All-ASUN Team, recognizing their achievements in both academics and athletics. The announcement was made by the Atlantic Sun Conference following a year where the Bears played one of the most difficult schedules nationally.
The honorees are Matheo Francou, Javier Ramirez, and Lucas Shearer. All three played significant roles during head coach Kyle Segebart’s first season with the team, helping secure four wins—all at home—resulting in an undefeated home record.
Francou, who is from France and a graduate student in business administration, maintained a 4.0 GPA while completing post-baccalaureate studies. He started 12 matches this season and logged 983 minutes on the field for a team that finished second in the ASUN Gold Division. Francou contributed two assists this year, including one during conference play and another on a game-winning goal against Eastern Illinois. He also supported a defense that recorded two shutouts and limited four other teams to just one goal each.
Ramirez completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry with a 3.59 GPA. As goalkeeper, he appeared in ten games this season and made 56 saves, including earning a shutout against Missouri State. Over his career at Central Arkansas, Ramirez ranked among the program’s top ten for saves (166) and goals against average (1.59).
Shearer is finishing his finance degree with a 3.92 GPA. On the field, he led Central Arkansas with five assists—second-most in the ASUN—and topped the league for assists during conference matches with four of those coming against ASUN opponents. His contributions helped Central Arkansas tie for most goals scored during conference play.
“Three seniors were honored by the conference with this award, in Matheo Francou, Javier Ramirez and Lucas Shearer,” according to information released by Central Arkansas Athletics.
These recognitions highlight not only athletic performance but also academic dedication among student-athletes at Central Arkansas.
