Central Arkansas secured a 9–6 win over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Apr. 7, with an eight-run surge in the seventh inning at Bear Stadium. The Bears improved their record to 16-17 overall and 5-7 in conference play, while the Golden Lions dropped to 15-20 and 8-4.
The game was close through six innings, with Central Arkansas taking an early lead after Jagger Schattle hit a home run in the first inning. The score remained unchanged until the sixth, when Arkansas Pine Bluff scored twice to take a brief lead.
In the pivotal seventh inning, Central Arkansas loaded the bases and capitalized on walks and hits to bring home eight runs. Key contributions came from Zane Denton with a double, Zeb Allen and Nate Negre with singles, as well as Sam Reynolds who hit a bases-clearing double. Schattle also contributed by drawing a walk that brought in a run.
Arkansas Pine Bluff mounted a late rally in the ninth inning but fell short after scoring three runs before Central Arkansas closed out the victory. Jacob Pannell started for Central Arkansas, pitching five innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out three batters. Jake Jones finished strong by not allowing any hits over more than an inning of relief work.
Individual highlights included Schattle scoring two runs with two RBIs and hitting one home run; Reynolds collecting three RBIs along with a double and stolen base; Denton recording three hits including one double; and Pannell finishing his outing with only one earned run allowed.
Looking ahead, Central Arkansas will travel to Nashville for their next game against Lipscomb University on Friday night.
