The Central Arkansas softball team began its participation in Troy’s Cardinal Clash with two losses, dropping their overall record to 3-4. The Bears faced Radford in the opening game and later played against host team Troy.
In the first game, Central Arkansas lost to Radford 6-1. Pitcher Bailie Runner started strong by striking out three batters in the first inning. Kaitlyn Graham delivered the team’s first hit, and after a fielding error during Emma Robertson’s at bat, Graham scored from second base. Gracie St. Hilaire and LJ Smith also reached base, but the inning ended with a flyout.
Radford responded in the third inning by scoring four runs and taking control of the game. Central Arkansas had limited opportunities to recover; Robertson singled in the sixth, but there were few other chances for a comeback.
The Bears’ offensive struggles continued into their second matchup against Troy, where they lost 8-0. Trinity Brandon earned a walk to start the game but was left stranded as her teammates could not advance her further. After holding Troy scoreless for two innings, Central Arkansas allowed two runs in the third and then six more in the fifth inning.
Gracie St. Hilaire recorded her second hit of the day during this game and has now extended her hitting streak to four games this season.
Central Arkansas is scheduled to play IU Indy on day two of the Cardinal Clash at 9 a.m., followed by another contest against Troy.
