The Central Arkansas softball team lost to No. 21 Louisiana State University on April 7, falling 9-1 in Baton Rouge.
The result leaves the Bears with a record of 25-16 as they prepare for upcoming conference games. The loss came despite several offensive opportunities, including a home run by Kaitlyn Graham.
LSU took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Graham responded for Central Arkansas in the second inning with her third home run of the season, hitting a shot to center field and marking the ninth time in the last fifteen games that Central Arkansas has hit a home run. She is now one of four Bears players this season to have at least three homers.
Central Arkansas kept the game close through three innings and loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth after Trinity Brandon walked, Emma Robertson doubled, and Graham walked again. However, they were unable to score during that opportunity. LSU added two more runs in the fourth inning and closed out their win with additional runs late in the game.
The Bears managed only three hits throughout the contest and had another chance to score late but could not bring runners around. The team will now shift focus back to ASUN conference play, traveling for matchups against Bellarmine next weekend followed by Eastern Kentucky University.
