The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams set two new school records and achieved 22 top ten finishes on the first day of the Washburn Open and Multi in Topeka, Kansas.
Sloan Jones started the day by setting a meet record in the 60m dash event of the men’s heptathlon, finishing first with a time of 6.87 seconds. Alexander Anderson finished third with a time of 7.14, while Nathan Uptagrafft placed fourth at 7.18.
Uptagrafft also took third place in the long jump heptathlon event with a distance of 6.95 meters and finished second in the shot put heptathlon event with a mark of 12.60 meters. Jones secured third place in the high jump event of the heptathlon, clearing 1.88 meters.
In the men’s weight throw, Jaden Schneeberger earned first place with a throw of 19.56 meters. Devyn Steingisser followed in third place at 18.38 meters, Trevor Green was sixth at 17.72 meters, and Zahir Mcphail came ninth at 17.04 meters.
Jane Musengwa broke the UCA indoor record for women’s shot put with a mark of 14.08 meters, while Serena Degollado took fourth place at 13.21 meters.
Madeline Hill set a new UCA indoor record in the women’s 5000m run by more than eleven seconds, finishing at 16:53.21. Kayleigh Wagnon placed seventh with a time of 17:15.48.
The Bears’ team consisting of Hill, Wagnon, Arizona Blankenship, and Liz Browning finished sixth in the women’s 4000m distance medley relay with a time of 12:20.37.
Four athletes—Brenae Allen, Troynelle Miller, Raegan Allen, and Danyelle Poole—will compete in Saturday’s semifinal round for the women’s 60m dash; Jeremiah Boudreaux and Gabriel Torres will advance to semifinals on the men’s side.
Boudreaux also earned sixth place in the men’s 200m dash event with a time of 21.43 seconds.
Day two events will begin Saturday morning at ten o’clock with the men’s heptathlon’s hurdles portion; fans can follow along via live results or watch on live stream.
