The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams participated in the Wooo Pig Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas, achieving 41 top-ten finishes. The event saw one first-place, one second-place, and five third-place results for the Bears.
Joia Perry secured first place in the women’s weight throw with a mark of 20.08 meters. Joy Nance finished third in the same event with a throw of 17.47 meters. Serena Degollado and Malea Wiggins placed fifth and seventh, respectively.
Abby Machesky set a new indoor school record in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.27, earning sixth place overall.
In the women’s 200-meter dash, Raghan Allen finished third at 23.85 seconds. Danyelle Poole took fifth (24.14), while Brenae Allen was eighth (24.34). Jane Musengwa placed third in the shot put with a throw of 13.82 meters; Serena Degollado finished tenth at 12.86 meters.
Sequoya Prentice was fourth in the women’s 3000-meter run with a time of 10:11.01, and Alexis Frick came ninth at 10:45.77.
Zoe Williams advanced to the finals in the women’s 60-meter hurdles after running an 8.72 in qualifying; she placed sixth in the final with an improved time of 8.64.
On the men’s side, Jaden Schneeberger earned second place in the weight throw (20.10 meters), followed by Devyn Steingisser in third (18.58). Treavor Green (eighth), Zahir Mcphail (ninth), and Eli Jones (tenth) also finished among the top ten.
Sam Morales claimed fourth place in the men’s 3000-meter run with a time of 8:47.04; William Wyatt Hill was sixth at 8:50.22.
Four Central Arkansas athletes were among the top ten finishers in the men’s mile race: Logan Dingman (third), Trae Baker (sixth), Sam Morales (ninth), and William Wyatt Hill (tenth).
Byron Holt and Sloan Jones qualified for finals in the men’s 60-meter hurdles; Holt ran a qualifying time of 7.99 seconds before finishing fourth at 7.98 seconds, while Jones placed eighth at 8.11 seconds.
Brayden Burris finished fourth in long jump with a leap of 7.15 meters; Maverick Walker was eighth at 7.03 meters.
In the men’s 800-meter run, Trae Baker took fourth place with a time of 1:53.51, closely followed by Ky Bickford who was fifth at 1:53.84.
Eli Jones placed fifth in shot put (16.62 meters) and Zahir Mcphail took ninth (14.52 meters).
Bears head coach Josey Weaver commented on his team’s performance:
“We took another step forward today. I’m really proud of how our team competed and supported one another,” Weaver said. “We’re starting to come together at the right time. Abby Machesky also broke a school record today — so proud to see her hard work paying off.”
The Bears are scheduled to return to Fayetteville for next week’s Tyson Invitational.
