After a strong week of competition, two players from the Central Arkansas volleyball team have received recognition from the ASUN Conference. Caylan Koons was named Setter of the Week, while McKinzee Haas earned her second Freshman of the Week award.
Koons, a senior, was recognized for her performance in two matches last week, where she averaged 11.29 assists per set. She recorded 33 assists in a three-set win against Queens and 46 assists in a four-set victory over West Georgia. These performances marked the fifth and sixth times this season that she has averaged more than ten assists per set in a match. In addition to her setting, Koons contributed 15 digs, six blocks, three kills, and two aces. She currently ranks third in the ASUN in assists per set during conference play, averaging 10.36 over 28 sets.
Haas continued her strong freshman campaign, adding notable performances in both matches. Against Queens, she had five kills, four digs, and four blocks with only one error in 12 attacks. In the match against West Georgia, she posted 13 kills with a .667 hitting percentage, four blocks, and three digs. For the week, Haas totaled 18 kills, ten blocks, and seven digs. So far this year, she has 104 kills with a .325 hitting percentage and leads the team with 67 total blocks. In conference play, Haas is third in the ASUN with 1.19 blocks per set and fourth with 32 total blocks.
The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears will host two matches at home this weekend, facing Bellarmine on Friday at 6 p.m. and EKU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
