The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team will face Stetson on Saturday in the Farris Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and marks the first part of a double-header.
Central Arkansas, with an 11-9 overall record and a 4-4 standing in ASUN conference play, seeks to recover from Thursday’s defeat. The team previously beat Stetson on January 1, holding the Hatters to just 43 points—their season low—and allowing only 17 points in the second half. In that earlier matchup, Stetson managed to shoot only 27 percent from the field and 18 percent from beyond the arc. On offense, eight Sugar Bears players scored at least four points each, with Shae Littleford contributing 15 points and Paris Santacaterina adding 13.
Since their opening ASUN win against Stetson, Central Arkansas has gone 3-4 in conference games. Their results have often correlated with shooting performance: they are undefeated (4-0) when shooting above 40 percent in ASUN games but winless (0-4) when below that threshold.
Stetson comes into the contest with a 12-8 record overall and a 5-4 mark in ASUN play. Since losing to Central Arkansas on New Year’s Day, the Hatters have posted a 5-3 record. Most recently, they secured a narrow victory over North Alabama by a score of 66-62. Aleah Sorrentino led Stetson in that game with 19 points and seven rebounds as the Hatters outscored their opponent by eight points in the final quarter.
Cameron Thomas continues to be a key player for Stetson since ASUN competition began, ranking ninth in the league with an average of 14.1 points per game. The senior guard leads her team in both field goals made (43) and three-pointers (20). However, her shooting percentages have declined during conference play—dropping from nearly 48 percent overall and 46 percent from three-point range during nonconference games to about 40 percent from the field and just over 31 percent from deep.
Saturday’s game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with real-time statistics available online. Fans can also listen to coverage on local radio station 91.3 The Bear with Steve Owens providing commentary.
