The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team will host Austin Peay on Wednesday at the Farris Center, with tip-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game is one of four remaining in the regular season for the Sugar Bears.
Central Arkansas currently holds a 16-10 overall record and is 9-5 in ASUN conference play. Last week, the team secured an important win against Eastern Kentucky University, handing EKU its first conference loss of the season. In that game, Central Arkansas held EKU to just 48 points, their lowest total this season. Shae Littleford led Central Arkansas with 18 points and was named ASUN Newcomer of the Week.
Following that victory, Central Arkansas defeated Bellarmine 85-37. Every player contributed during the game as the Sugar Bears maintained control throughout. This result extended their winning streak to five games. During this stretch, they have limited opponents to an average of 43.8 points per game and forced a total of 96 turnovers, scoring 99 points from those turnovers. In conference play, Central Arkansas now has the second-best scoring defense in the ASUN, allowing just 56.1 points per game over 14 league contests.
The upcoming matchup against Austin Peay will be their only meeting this season. Since both teams joined the ASUN Conference, they have faced each other five times, with Central Arkansas leading the series three games to two. Two of those wins were decided by a single point; last year’s contest in Conway saw Central Arkansas win by ten.
Austin Peay enters Wednesday’s game with a record of 14-10 overall and is 6-8 in ASUN play. The Governors recently lost at home to West Georgia after previously defeating Queens University at home last Thursday. Notably, Austin Peay has performed better on the road this season—winning ten out of twelve away games—but has won only four out of twelve home games.
Anovia Sheals leads Austin Peay in scoring this year with an average of 14 points per game and had a standout performance last week with a season-high tying 23 points against West Georgia. Jim’Miyah Branton also averages double figures at 10.3 points per game for Austin Peay.
Rebounding and efficiency near the basket are strengths for Austin Peay; they average more than seven rebounds per game over their opponents and collect offensive rebounds on over forty percent of their missed shots.
