Central Arkansas women’s basketball defeats Georgia State at Thanksgiving tournament

The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team secured a decisive victory over Georgia State on Wednesday, concluding their participation in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament with a 3-0 record for the week. The win brings the Sugar Bears’ season record to 5-2 and marks their fourth consecutive victory.

Central Arkansas established control early, opening the game with a 13-0 run and holding Georgia State scoreless through 12 consecutive missed shots. Paris Santacaterina contributed significantly during this stretch, scoring 11 of the team’s first 13 points and making three three-pointers. By the end of the first quarter, Central Arkansas led 22-5, with both Santacaterina and Bree Stephens individually outscoring the Panthers.

Stephens finished with a double-double, recording 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Santacaterina also achieved a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards.

Georgia State improved its performance in the second quarter but was limited to just 14 points on 33 percent shooting by Central Arkansas’s defense. At halftime, Central Arkansas had made seven three-pointers while holding Georgia State to just 16 percent shooting from the field.

In the third quarter, after Georgia State narrowed the deficit to 13 points, Central Arkansas responded with a decisive 16-2 run that extended their lead to as much as 24 points. Shae Littleford contributed by making four field goals in the period, including two from beyond the arc. The team emphasized ball movement throughout the game, finishing with a total of 17 assists.

With their lead reaching up to 28 points in the final quarter, Central Arkansas rotated bench players into action. Four Conway Wampus Cats—Emerie Bohanon, Alexis Cox, Alivia Cox, and Kaideyn Beckwith—shared court time alongside freshman Carla Ramirez to close out the contest. This victory marks five straight wins for Central Arkansas in Atlanta.

The Sugar Bears will return home for their next game against Hendrix on Monday, December 1st at Farris Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
