The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team secured its third consecutive victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Stony Brook 70-42 in Atlanta. This win marks the team’s best defensive performance of the season, holding an opponent to just 42 points.
Nine players contributed to the Sugar Bears’ scoring effort, with eight recording at least six points. Shae Littleford and Bree Stephens led the team with 11 points each, while Cheyanne Kemp, Linda Amaning, and Kamryn Griffin added eight apiece.
Stony Brook initially took a 10-5 lead midway through the first quarter. After a timeout, Central Arkansas responded with scores from Julianna Gibson and Jenna Cook to tie the game at 10-10. The Sugar Bears then went on a run that turned their deficit into a seven-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Stony Brook managed to reduce Central Arkansas’s lead to three points early on. However, Central Arkansas answered with a nine-point run and ended the half on an 18-4 stretch, building a 17-point advantage at halftime.
During the third quarter, Central Arkansas maintained efficient scoring while Stony Brook stayed within reach thanks to free throws. The Sugar Bears shot 47 percent from the field compared to Stony Brook’s 30 percent but allowed several points from the foul line.
All fourteen players for Central Arkansas saw playing time in the fourth quarter as starters extended the lead and bench players maintained it until the final buzzer. The team hit four three-pointers in this period—all from bench players—with Kamryn Griffin contributing two of them. Defensively, Central Arkansas held Stony Brook to just 18 percent shooting in the final quarter.
Central Arkansas will conclude its participation in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament on Wednesday when they face host Georgia State Panthers at 11 a.m. CT.
