The ASUN announced its All-Academic Team on May 18, with four Central Arkansas Bears baseball players earning recognition for their achievements in the classroom and on the field.
To be considered for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5, have completed more than half of their degree requirements, and meet specific playing criteria during the season.
Graduate student Silas Cowgill from Texarkana, Texas, majoring in Sports Management with a 4.0 GPA, was among those honored. Cowgill served as a relief pitcher this season with a 4-0 record over 19 appearances. He pitched 38.1 innings, allowed just 24 earned runs, struck out 24 batters, and held opponents to a .283 batting average.
Senior Keon Moseni from Ontario, Canada is majoring in General Business with a GPA of 3.56. Playing first base and designated hitter roles across 28 games (18 starts), Moseni recorded 14 hits including two doubles and four runs batted in (RBI). His on-base percentage was .355 and he posted a fielding percentage of .98 this season.
Sam Reynolds is an academic junior from Hattieville, Arkansas majoring in Physical Education with a GPA of 3.56. As an outfielder who played in 25 games (14 starts), Reynolds scored six runs and hit one home run along with eight RBI while maintaining a perfect fielding percentage.
Casey Shipley is a graduate student from Farmington, Arkansas majoring in Family and Consumer Science with a GPA of 3.7. Shipley played catcher and designated hitter positions across 26 games (21 starts), finishing the season with a .325 batting average on twenty-five hits including two doubles and three home runs; he also scored fourteen runs and had eight RBI while posting slugging (.468) and on-base (.369) percentages as well as a .98 fielding percentage.
Head Coach Nick Harlan said about the selections: “I’m proud of our guys for the academic recognition. It takes tremendous discipline to excel at a high level in the classroom with the demands of college athletics. They have done a great job of prioritizing their time and focused energy in the right places. All four will be successful in what ever they choose to do in life.”
The Bears are currently competing at DeLand, Florida this week for the ASUN Championship tournament where they are scheduled to play Stetson on Tuesday at five o’clock p.m.
