WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) on May 12, 2023 announced the winner of the Second Congressional District’s 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Nearly 100 students from central Arkansas submitted their work for this year’s competition. The winner of this year’s competition is McKenzie Young with “Pawpaw’s Hands.” McKenzie is a 12th grade student at Sylvan Hills High School. The winner of this year’s Fan Favorite Award is Kyler Wells with “Majestic Buck.”
Kyler is an 11th grade student at Greenbrier High School. “I am proud to congratulate McKenzie, the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition. This year was one of our most competitive years yet with nearly 100 submissions. I am continually impressed with the outstanding work of our young artists – I thank the leaders throughout our community, including our local art teachers who encourage our students and empower them with resources to display their creativity,” said Rep. Hill. “I look forward to seeing McKenzie’s artwork on display in the United States Capitol for Members of Congress, their staff, and visitors to see for the next year – as well as Kyler’s art, which will be on display in my Little Rock office. I am proud of the tremendous work our central Arkansan artists have produced and am proud to highlight their work for the next year.”

First Place: McKenzie Young, Sylvan Hills High School – “Pawpaw’s Hands”
Second Place: Jojo Buchmann, Central High School – “Displaced”
Third Place: Camilla Spresian, Greenbrier High School – “Signs of Spring”
Honorable Mention: Carter Harrison, Joe T. Robinson High School – “1956 Ford F-100”
“Fan Favorite”: Kyler Wells, Greenbrier High School – “Majestic Buck”
Background Information:
Each year, high school students from central Arkansas compete to have their art showcased in the U.S. Capitol. The winner will have the opportunity to come to Washington, D.C. to attend a reception for all the Congressional Art Competition winners from across the country.
