WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) on May 31 released the following statement after House Republicans passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which cuts over $2 trillion in federal spending and advances conservative principles.

“On May 31, I voted to cut over $2 trillion in federal spending – the largest cut in United States history. House Republicans voted to rein in President Biden’s spending addiction. This legislation secures critical cuts to an out-of-control budget and implements reforms that will curb spending, provide regulatory relief for job creators, and help Americans get back to work.

“For over 100 days, Speaker McCarthy tried to work with President Biden – the situation we faced was fully avoidable if President Biden and Senate Democrats had acted with urgency and maturity to work with us and come to a sensible agreement well before our nation was dangerously close to defaulting on its debt.”

Further Background:

  • H.R. 3746 – Fiscal Responsibility Act – This bill will rein in reckless government spending, claw back billions in unspent COVID-19 funds, rescind increases to the IRS, restart student loan repayments, and avoid economic chaos.
