WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) on May 11, 2023  released the following statement after House Republicans passed H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act, which will make our southwest border more secure.

“Since President Biden took office over two years ago, the situation at our southwest border has deteriorated. The reckless inaction by the Biden Administration has created the current humanitarian and security crisis at our southwest border, which has caused immense strain on U.S. Border Patrol Agents, empowered the flow of illicit drugs throughout our country, and compromised our national security.

“I was proud to vote alongside my Republican colleagues in support of H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act, which would make our southwest border more secure by increasing the number of Border Patrol agents, strengthening the asylum process, and ending catch and release. House Republicans remain dedicated to keeping our promises in our Commitment to America and have once again delivered for the American people.”

Further Background:

  • H.R. 2 – Secure the Border Act: This bill would increase the number of Border Patrol agents, end catch and release, strengthen the asylum process, and require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security.
