University of Central Arkansas issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.
Since earning the title of Miss UCA 2022, Nia Kelley has enjoyed serving as an ambassador for the University of Central Arkansas and meeting new people throughout the city of Conway and surrounding areas.
“My favorite part so far has been participating in the Conway Christmas parade,” Kelley said. “I was sitting on top of the car waving, smiling and wishing people Merry Christmas. All the children were just so happy! It was as if they saw a real princess. I felt special and it helped me realize I was a role model to them.”
Kelley, who is from North Little Rock, chose UCA for its exceptional vocal music program. She’s been singing since she was 18 months old and was a contestant on Season 19 of American Idol, making it to the top 64.
As Miss UCA, Kelley will work on her social impact initiative which is Creatively Intelligent Through Performing Arts. Kelley finds inspiration in the arts, and through her initiative, she hopes to encourage children by giving them access to professionals and art programs that will help them reach their potential.
The UCA scholarship competition encourages, promotes and supports young women as they achieve their academic and personal goals. There are more than $10,000 in scholarships available at the pageant. Kelley was shocked when they announced her as the winner because she is a freshman.
