Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on April 1.
The City of Morrilton will host a kick-off event for the upcoming solar eclipse on Friday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the future site of Holyfield Place, located at the intersection of Moose and Commerce streets in downtown Morrilton. The event marks two years until the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse that will mask much of Arkansas in darkness in the middle of the day.
At one of the longest durations of totality in the state, Morrilton will experience 4 minutes and 13 seconds of total darkness at 1:50 p.m. on April 8, 2024, during the eclipse.
To begin the official countdown, the planning committee invites the public to attend the kick-off event to learn more about local efforts in preparing for the influx of visitors to our area. A brief program will begin at 1:30 p.m. where committee members will address key points of the planning thus far. The committee will have t-shirts for sale, and interested citizens can sign up to help in different areas.
