Arkansas Department of Commerce - Conway Local Office issued the following announcement on April 17.
Conway area businesses have been the indirect beneficiary of a little-known COVID relief program, the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Since the spring of 2020, $31.6 million has been paid directly to Conway area college students.
The fund was created and subsidized as part of the federal COVID response. The legislation provided funds to colleges and universities to assist students with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds were given to students unencumbered.
Students were able to use the funds in any way they wish to help with hardships incurred due to COVID-19. View a breakdown of fund disbursement by institution:
