8 P.M. UPDATE: Thanks for doing your part! MISO is lifting the critical shortage warning at this time. We are still under a cold weather alert and MISO could ask for voluntary reductions again. If that happens, we will post here with updates.
VOLUNTARY POWER REDUCTION REQUEST
We are currently asking customers to voluntarily reduce electric usage until 9 p.m. tonight to prevent service interruptions in our area.
MISO, our regional transmission organization and independent system operator, has issued warning of a critical shortage due to higher than forecasted demand and forced generation outages.
Should MISO order controlled power outages, we will post information as soon as possible with as much detail as we are given. Coordinated outages should only last 30 minutes.
Some immediate ways to reduce electricity usage include:
Turn down electric thermostats to 65 degrees.
Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances – including Christmas lights and other holiday decorations.
Delay laundry, washing dishes, bathing and other non-essential uses of electricity.
