The City of Conway, a vibrant and progressive community located in central Arkansas, 31 miles northwest of the state capital of Little Rock, is accepting resumes for a Long-Range Planner to join the city’s planning team. Conway, with an estimated population of over 68,000, is home to three universities: the University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College, and Central Baptist College. Conway is a rapidly growing community that has more than doubled in population since 1990, seeing growth in residential, retail, technology, and medical sectors. Conway offers a dynamic quality of life with a lively downtown, quality schools, and exceptional recreational opportunities.
This position reports directly to the Director of Planning and Development. Responsibilities include primary coordination of the city’s long range planning and implementation efforts such as: assisting in the development of corridor, bike/ped, and small area plans; handling community outreach for department efforts; administrative support to boards, committees, and commissions as assigned; assistance in updating the city’s land use and master street plans; assistance as a team member in updating or revising zoning, subdivision, signage, and overlay district regulations; occasional assistance in review of land use and development applications. May perform reviews for site development and other departmental reviews as assigned. May perform other duties as assigned. Conway uses many progressive planning tools and is committed to developing a more walkable and livable city.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, public policy, GIS, or geography. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Preferred 1+ year related experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- ESRI GIS skills required.
- Adobe Creative Suite and visualization skills preferred.
